Number 6 on the countdown of my 7 favorite places to watch the sunrise in Hoboken is Pier A. This also happens to be the most popular seagull meeting place in town.
With the warm weather we’ve been having for the past several weeks, there have been more even seagulls in town than usual as they have been migrating back north up the Hudson River, probably confused by the warmer temperatures. Those who have been following me since the early days will remember this didn’t start happening until around February and March last winter.
This morning I was reminded of the importance of patience. It was overcast this morning, and for a while it didn’t seem like there was going to be any color in the sky. I was somewhat disappointed by the shots I had taken, and wasn’t sure if I was going to get any sort of interesting photograph. I waited just a little longer, and sure enough the pink ripples in the clouds started to appear. I fired off a series of shots just as these seagulls were flying into my view. Everything came together at just the right time and I was able to capture it as a result of patience.
