It was one of the coldest mornings of the season so far. I stood out there waiting to see what would happen, but things didn’t change much in the 40 minutes or so that I was outside.

It was a little disappointing to be standing there freezing for so long, only to find the shots weren’t getting any better, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

I managed to get a few long exposures like this one to show the fast moving clouds just at the right moment when there was quite a bit of orange glow from the rising sun.

Make it count.

I knew my camera battery was low this morning, and I had forgot to charge my spare, so I knew I wasn’t going to have many chances to get the best possible photo this morning. As a result, I had to be very selective and scrutinize every scene before turning on my camera to take each shot.

I took one more photo after this one before my battery died, but I stayed out to at least witness what I would miss with my camera, and was happy to see I still liked the colors of my shot better than anything that developed layer on. I’m glad I made it count.

When your time or resources are limited, it amplifies your need to act purposefully because you have no choice. The challenge is to keep that same discipline and clear sense of purpose when things are (or appear to be) more plentiful. Your time is valuable–make every second count.
