Good Morning from Martha’s Vineyard.
I am posting the very first photograph I took as I stepped up to the edge of Tisbury Great Pond because I want you to experience the exact same feeling I had at that moment.
We are staying with family, and although their property backs up to this pond, I wasn’t able to see the horizon when I initially stepped out the door. So you could imagine my amazement as I approached the pond and all of a sudden was able to see this bright orange glow at the horizon.
As I walked closer in the near darkness, I startled a trio of dear who went scampering away.
The only sounds at the edge of the pond were the singing of birds welcoming in the new day, an occasional disturbance on the surface of the water from an excited school of minnows, and the constant murmur of the distant ocean.
At one point, the birds all started going crazy making frantic noises and then all of a sudden thousands of birds flew over my head in a giant flock. This was so incredible I thought it to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As I continued shooting more photos, I was surprised when about 20 minutes later the same thing happened again. Unfortunately my camera wasn’t set up to be able to capture that moment, but I was more than happy with the scene before me.
