Archives for August 2015
Tuesday, August 25, 2015 (Day 237)
It was a strange morning. It was still pretty dark until around 6am, much later than usual, mainly due to these clouds. The light wasn’t that great until around 6:30, which has been becoming the norm these past couple of weeks.
I may use this to my advantage and sleep in a few mornings until about 6:00 to get caught up on a little sleep. Yesterday I mentioned how sometimes I wake up earlier than needed anyway, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
But at the other end, I still need to get to bed earlier. While this project has helped me solve my prior issues of frequently going to bed around midnight or 1am, I still sometimes stay up as late as 10:30 or 11pm on a weeknight, and that is still a little too late considering my early wake up times. This is something I’ll be working on over the next few weeks.
Monday, August 24, 2015 (Day 236)
After 235 days of photographing the sunrise, I am still doing what I can to always find new views along the waterfront each morning. It’s getting more and more difficult, so I have to push myself to explore and be more observant. I thought this elevated vantage point with the trees in the foreground was a good spot for today.
And now that the sun is rising a bit later, I will have more time in the mornings to walk a little further when I want to. Even though I now aim to wake up around 5:30am, my body has been conditioned for the past few months to wake up even earlier, so it is sometimes a struggle to avoid automatically waking up at 4:45. I really want to break free of that habit because it will give me almost an extra hour of much needed sleep each night.
Last night I forgot to wear my wristband to wake me up, but I woke up automatically around 5:30 which was great. BTW if you’re wondering what what I mean by “wristband” and want to know more about my morning routine, be sure to check out my email newsletter, where I will be sharing more inside info.
Sunday, August 23, 2015 (Day 235)
Well yesterday I talked about the lack of color lately but this morning proved me wrong. Or did it? This photo was taken about 20 minutes after sunrise. These colors are still not quite the same as what we had typically seen in the mornings about 20 minutes prior to sunrise, up until a few weeks ago. And actually we did have a little pre-sunrise glow of pink but it was so faint that it wasn’t worth posting compared with this later flood of light. It has been interesting to see how conditions change with the time of year.
Saturday, August 22, 2015 (Day 234)
Just a few boats. I decided to head over to the marina this morning and I’m glad I did. I fired off a few initial test shots when this cruise ship suddenly appeared like a silent giant creeping along the river. The timing couldn’t have been better. Also, I’m not sure what happened to all the brilliant colors I have become used to seeing at sunrise.
It seems like lately the clouds haven’t been lighting up in much color, other than a few blotches here and there. I’m not sure why that is, or whether it is just a coincidence that we’ve had so many days like that so close together. But I am certainly not complaining because the mornings are still pretty amazing.
