Finale. The final sunrise of the year.
Often we embark on a journey only to end up right where we started. We set out to find something about the world or about ourselves and discover that the answer was a lot closer than we thought all along.
And so it was only fitting for me to be right here for the final sunrise of the year–the place where it all started for me on January 1st, my favorite spot to watch the sunrise in Hoboken. There really is nothing quite like this scene anywhere else in town.
I took a lot of photos of the clouds this morning while I waited to see what would happen. A few of the photos made me happy enough to think they could have been the one. Soon, the glow near the horizon started to get brighter. The sun was trying to peek through.
It had been so quiet and tranquil out there, but all of a sudden I heard this rushing noise, like waves crashing at the beach. I don’t know where the noise came from, because the water was calm and there were only a few small boats. It felt like a signal that something was about to happen.
Just then, the sun broke through a small opening in the clouds and flooded the scene with light. I felt the heat on my face. I quickly fired only 3 shots before it faded away. The noise was gone. The sun was gone. It was over.
But this is not the end, for me or for this project. As the year progressed, I realized so many ways that I could inspire people and bring value to the world, and I will continue to spread my message through my sunrise photography and other means to covey everything I’ve learned from this amazing experience.
CaptureTheSunrise is ironically not about the sunrise, or about photography. It’s about finding yourself, changing your life, and doing extraordinary things. I would encourage you to find your own sunrise, whatever that may be. The answer is likely right in front of you.
